He asks Martis to help his daughter, nine-year-old Atana. After an argument, she returned to the girl’s dormatory. That was three days ago. Martis is certain she saw Atana during the rehearsals for the bird dance but now she realizes Atana is truly missing. Martis’s search for Atana leads her into a web of conspiracy, one that will threaten to unweave the fabric of their community.
